Description
Limassol is the second largest urban area in Cyprus and the southernmost in Europe.

The film begins with footage from the Medieval Limassol Castle which is situated near the old harbour in the heart of the historical centre of the city of Limassol with palm trees and blooming trees all around it. In the next view, we see the staircase that leads to the entrance of the castle and we are on one of its terraces from which we have a panoramic view of the city with its streets, its low tiled roofs, a minaret, some -modern- newly built tall buildings, until our eyes meet the sea.

We are transported on a street with shops, we see a kid who enjoys the game as he sits on a moving electric elephant. We see one more street in the city center with lots of traffic from vehicles and pedestrians. A large sign "TASSOULAS FLOWER LACE SHOP", in a shop with embroidery and lace, items for which Limassol is famous.

In our last view, part of a town square and a zoom-in on a blooming tree.

Creator's description

Lemessos is as good a place as any to start our little tour of Cyprus. This of course is the castle, built in the 14 th century. According to the tourist brochure it was somewhere in this town that King Richard I of England married Princess Berengaria of Navarre in 1192, during the Third Crusade, and a century later the Knights of St. John established their headquarters here after the final loss of the Holy Land.

But that’s enough history for the time being –let’s stroll along the street and look at the shops. One of the best things to buy in Cyprus is lace. It is really very fine, isn’t it?
