Description
Melissani cave is a lake cave of unique beauty, located on the island of Kefalonia, Greece.

We are at the artificial entrance of the cave where visitors can have access and we see the perimeter of the limestone rocks, as well as the natural entrance of the cave, which is vertical (dimensions 40 x 50 m.) and was created by the fall of part of the roof.

In the blue waters of the lake a boatman is waiting to board visitors and lead them inside the cave, the small boat fills suffocatingly and the tour begins.

Shots from the rocks, the water and while entering the cave we see 20,000-year-old stalactites. The light is constantly reduced to absolute darkness, where a male voice is heard saying: "Octopuses! Octopuses! We caught octopuses! " and laughs.

Return to the light and the clear blue, transparent waters.

Creator's description

The strangest sight on the island, however, is undoubtedly the cave of Melissani, with its deep blue lake. At one time the cave was roofed over, but then –probably as a result of an earthquake- most of the roof fell in leaving a gaping hole open to the skies.

Let’s go for a short trip into the interior of the cave.

Oo-er! It’s rather dark and spooky in here –like the entrance to the Underworld. Fortunately we have return tickets.
