Frequently Asked Questions

◆ What is Aylon Film Archives?

The Aylon Film Archives is an online repository which includes digitized film footage of amateurs, filmed mainly in the period between the 1940s and the 1980s (home movies). The purpose of the Aylon Film Archives is to gather a significant volume of digitized films on a web repository, with the consent of the authors. The material, after proper processing and the necessary historical documentation, is provided for free to anyone to watch, thus giving a glance into the past, through the eyes of everyday people who lived it.

◆ Where do the films from the Aylon Film Archives come from?

The films come mainly from amateur filmmakers or their heirs or collectors who have entrusted them to the Aylon Film Archives project as an ideal way to share them with the rest of the world.

◆ Are there any rights granted to the creators by Aylon Film Archives?

The Aylon Film Archives fully respects the rights of the authors (or collectors) on their work, which is why the material is basically sorted according to them. Collectors-creators have given written permission to display their material through the Aylon Film Archives.

◆ What is the primary material of the films we see on Aylon Film Archives?

The primary material is 8mm, super 8, and 16mm film. That is, mainly amateur films which were popular prior to the invention of analog or digital video.

No, the archive is intended to exclusively preserve digitized film footage.

◆ How is the film digitized at Aylon Film Archives?

Digitization is carried out with state-of-the-art scanning telecine system at a resolution up to 2K. We never digitize films by projecting them on a wall and shoot with a camcorder.
